The first camping trip for Josh was a hit! I mean it was awesome. But before we could have fun we had to do some “camp chores” first. He helped set up the tent, unroll the sleeping stuff and gather sticks for the fire. We went over fire safety rules and only jumped over the fire twice. We also had to go over “playing in the mud” rules, since mud seems to be really cool at two and a half.
We brought Woodford along and he acted as the official camp security. The marshmallow cooking seemed to be the highlight of the trip. Although, once in the tent for the night, constant investigating of all the zippers, windows and bug shadows on the walls seemed to be an additional highlight since it went on for an hour and a half.
Some necessary items were brought for sanity such as his favorite bedtime stuffed animal, books for the bedtime reading, his favorite pillow and beer for dad. Keeping sanity was important.
All kidding aside, it was one of my favorite life moments. We both had a great time. As someone once said, “if you could bottle up a day …” well that would have been the day. It was truly an amazing time. As we were packing up to leave, he said “Dad, I love camping.”
So now we are planning a climb up Everest. I’ll keep ya posted.
In Indiana, the Indianapolis 500 is a big deal. A very big deal. So big that it engulfs the whole month of May. Hoosiers get it. Others may not. I grew up in Indiana and first visited the track when I was a kid. Started regularly going in high school, and have been ever since with few exceptions. If I can’t attend the race, I try to get there sometime in May – I always have. The sound of the engines screaming by, the smell of the methanol (now ethanol) fuel, lugging in the coolers, Jim Neighbors, the fly-overs, the enormous crowds, etc. – these are the things Hoosiers think of in May. Now the race may not be for everyone, and I can accept that. But for those of us who love it, it is a very cool thing.
Today was Bump Day, where dreams and bankrolls are shattered in an instant. Drivers who qualify on the second day of time trials line up behind the first-day qualifiers. Third day qualifiers line up behind the second day qualifiers, followed by the fourth day (nicknamed “Bump day”) qualifiers. Once the field is filled to 33, the slowest car, regardless of the day it qualified, is “on the bubble.” If another car qualifies faster, he/she will bump the slowest driver out of the field.
Since 2005, the four days of qualifying have been split up to generate bumping on all four days:
On pole day, positions 1-11 are open for qualifying
On the second day, positions 12-22 are open for qualifying
On the third day, positions 23-33 are open for qualifying
On bump day, bumping begins immediately once the field is filled to 33 cars.

The iPhone camera kinda sucks. Ok there, I said it. I mean it works fine for a phone camera but it lacks flash, zoom, focus, etc. I use it all the time but struggle with its limitations.
This Camera Zoom app is really pretty good. It only costs .99 and, to me, is worth its weight in gold. This app doesn’t replace the iPhone camera – it is a stand alone app. It features:
• Up to 4x digital zoom
• Realtime zooming
• Adjusts photo to best quality AFTER taking picture
• Built-in camera roll photos preview
• Customize zoom slider’s position
Here’s the deal: This app utilizes software to create a zoom feature for the camera. It works well. It works best with daylight or brightly lit subjects. It is a bit grainy when zoomed in all the way. But without it you can’t zoom in at all. In my testing it is worth a buck. Easy to use and it really comes in handy. Check it out.
Absolutely one of the best Dead songs ever. Phil has been singing it since Jerry’s death, but it has always been a Jerry tune. This video is from the Vegas show in ’94 and Jerry is spot on. The video is black for the first 26 seconds so just be patient. Enjoy.
INDIANAPOLIS — An ’80s rocker from Indiana is accused of throwing methamphetamine out of his vehicle as he was being pulled over by police.
Henry Lee Swartz, 53, better known by the stage name Henry Lee Summer, was charged in Marion County Thursday with possession of methamphetamine, obstruction of justice and two counts of resisting law enforcement.
According to the probable cause affidavit, Summer was pulled over Tuesday on Indianapolis’ west side for failing to signal. The officer said he saw Summer throw an object out of the vehicle and continue driving. When Summer finally pulled over, the officer had to use pepper spray to subdue him, police said.
The object was later identified as a box containing crystal methamphetamine, investigators said.
In 2007, Summer pleaded guilty to driving while intoxicated in connection with a September 2006 incident in which he hit four parked cars.

get used to it. Parking lot filling up, vending abounds. Leash law not

Looking for a place to eat while in Schaumburg was simple. Launched the Maps app on my iPhone and typed in “restaurants” and in 3 seconds found Hooters – and saw exactly where it was. Mmmmmm, chicken wings.
But my point is that my iPhone is used for SO much more than just a phone. Doesn’t seem possible living without it.
Oh, and by the way, it found my dinner choice while I was actually talking to someone on the phone.
This is a great 2009 video compilation with the current band lineup. It shows their enthusiasm and great personalities during rehearsals. Pretty amazing for a band that formed in 1965 and continues to play today, even with the loss of their iconic guitarist. The Grateful Dead are well-known for constantly touring throughout their long career, playing more than 2300 live concerts. Not to shabby. Keep on truckin’.
